Get ready for something completely different - the only helicopter simulator experience in Manchester has arrived.
Built inside an authentic Bell Ranger fuselage, this hands-on experience puts you in the pilot’s seat of a virtual helicopter, where you’ll feel the full thrill of rotorcraft flight. From hovering and rotating to navigating tight spaces, this is a unique and immersive challenge unlike anything fixed-wing.
Every detail — from the cockpit layout to the flight physics -is designed to give you a true-to-life flying experience, with the added excitement of dynamic weather and high-precision controls.
Whether you're an aviation enthusiast, a sim fan, or just looking for something extraordinary to try, this is helicopter flight... reimagined.
We’ll be documenting the entire build process right here — from structural modifications and setup to the moment the simulator is fully operational. Follow along as we bring this one-of-a-kind experience to life...
We got started with some essential groundwork as we took the first real steps towards building our brand-new helicopter simulator.
The day began with cutting through steel to prepare the hangar — and it was no small task. With precision tools and a fair few sparks flying, the team reshaped the space to make way for what’s to come. Once the steel was cleared, we widened the hangar entrance to ensure the helicopter frame could fit through.
Next, we created a new opening for bringing the chopper inside, along with a separate doorway that will serve as the main entrance once the simulator is complete.
With the space prepped and ready, we moved the helicopter frame into place, settled it onto fresh carpet, and got it perfectly level.
This week, we turned our attention to refining the internal mechanics of the helicopter simulator—specifically the cyclic control, which governs the pitch and roll of the aircraft.
Upon inspection, we discovered that the original potentiometers had been incorrectly installed. Not only were they the wrong type for the application, but the geometry of the setup didn’t allow for accurate or reliable input.
We’ve now stripped and rebuilt the cyclic mechanism from the ground up, ensuring that the response is smooth, precise, and true to real-world helicopter handling.
We’re committed to delivering the most authentic experience possible, and this upgrade takes us one step closer to that goal.
As we enter Week 3 of building our brand-new helicopter simulator, the project has moved into its most technical phase — where behind-the-scenes engineering begins to bring the cockpit to life.
This week, we focused on configuring the flight simulation software that powers the experience. From control assignments to calibration settings, every input — from the cyclic to the collective — is being precisely mapped to ensure realistic, responsive handling.
Alongside software setup, we tackled a critical round of rewiring. The cyclic, pedals, and throttle systems all require exact wiring to interface correctly with the simulator’s onboard electronics. This work is essential to ensure both safety and flight accuracy.
We also began installing and activating the cockpit’s functional dials and gauges. These instruments are key to creating an authentic flight environment — and their addition is already transforming the interior of the sim.
